Orchestra Resounds
The MPO pursues its endeavors online with Orchestra Resounds, a programme of audio-visual concert productions which are to be released in the coming months on the orchestra’s digital media platforms.
Commencing with Tchaikovsky’s charming Romeo and Juliet which premieres on Monday 14th December, the series produced in collaboration with PARMA Recordings, presents a varied repertoire including Beethoven, Brahms, Stravinsky and Saryan as well as movie soundtracks under the baton of Principal Conductor Sergey Smbatyan. The works were recorded during 2 mini-residencies held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and the Hilton Malta respectively.
Orchestra Resounds forms part of the MPO Online Programme, as the orchestra seeks to diversify its music-making. In view of health regulations, the 20/21 Concert Season was re-planned with a number of productions including Il-Kunċert tal-Indipendenza, Rebbieħa and participation during The Three Palaces Festival.
In November, recordings were underway for a new CD album to be launched later in 2021 and available on streaming platforms. Additionally, the orchestra marked its return to live concerts in December with An Evening with Beethoven, a sold-out concert at Teatru Manoel.
