Malta Youth Orchestra

The Malta Youth Orchestra (MYO) strives to enhance the skills of Malta’s talented young orchestral musicians, providing them with opportunities to cultivate their ambitions. the MYO instils a sense of professionalism in its young musicians through regular rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, and performances with local and international tutors.

The MYO made its inaugural public appearance in December 2004 at a concert held at the President’s Palace in Valletta under the direction of Michael Laus. Subsequently, the MYO worked under the direction of Joseph Vella from 2011 to 2014 followed by a series of distinguished international conductors including Peter Stark, Robert Hodge, Kelly Kuo, Michalis Economou, Riccardo Bianchi, Darrell Ang, Virginia Martínez and Philip Walsh.

Despite being primarily a student orchestra, the MYO tackles a diverse range of core classical repertoire spanning centuries and genres in such events as Notte Bianca, Christmas concerts, bespoke performances for the ŻiguŻajg Festival, and the successful MPO-MYO Concerts, where the MYO musicians share the stage with members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
