Sonja Larson began violin studies at age five, and obtained a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota in 2006, studying violin performance and pedagogy with Sally O’Reilly. 

Her teachers include Dr. Jon Rumney, Aza Raykhtsaum and the Ying Quartet.  She has performed with and served as leader of numerous orchestras, chamber ensembles, studio recordings and music festivals across the USA.

Notable engagements include Boston Ballet, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Masterworks Chorale of Boston, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Austin Symphony, Austin Opera, LOLA (Local Opera Local Artists), Austin Chamber Music Center and Victoria Bach Festival. 

Teaching students and leading masterclasses since 1998, Sonja was Artist-in-Residence at the Armstrong Community Music School of Austin, Texas for six years.  In 2021, she joined the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Academy as violin tutor.
