The string section of the MPO led by Philip Walsh opens the final concert of the Victoria International Arts Festival with Elgar’s Serenade for Strings. This intimate work of beauty showcases his melodic gift and mastery of orchestration. Acclaimed Maltese clarinettist Godfrey Mifsud joins the orchestra to perform Vella’s riveting Clarinet Concerto op. 121. Known as the Italian, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 is celebrated for its vivid orchestration, melodic richness and evocative portrayal of the sights and sounds of Italy.
