Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky Romeo and Juliet 

Orchestra Resounds commences with Tchaikovsky’s Overture-Fantasy, based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A popular concert piece with a subject matter suggested by Balakirev, the composer conveys an array of contrasting characters and moods. 

The three main motifs portray Friar Laurence, the feuding Montague and Capulet families and the love between Romeo and Juliet respectively. Rather than depicting the play chronologically, the symphonic work presents a growing emotive escalation leading to the tragic death of the couple.
