presented in collaboration with Teatru Manoel JAUME SANTONJA Conductor George Frideric Handel / Sergei Zakharovich Aslamazyan Passacaglia for Strings The MPO returns to Teatru Manoel with an online concert featuring the string sections of the orchestra under the baton of Spanish conductor Jaume Santonja. The Passacaglia, a musical form from the Baroque era, is a transcription for strings of the last movement of Handel’s Harpsichord Suite in G minor by Aslamazyan. Barber arranged his emotionally poignant Adagio, originally part of his Quartet in B minor, after following the advice of Arturo Toscanini. The works presented also include Prelude and Scherzo, an oeuvre in which Shostakovich tributes Bach and Palladio for Strings by Jenkins, confirmed by Classic FM in 2015 as the most popular living composer. The concert will broadcast on ONE TV.
