The MYO joins forces with the MPO in the annual side-by-side concert led by Michael Laus. Muscat’s riveting Festival Overture fuses entrancing melodies with rhythmic vigour, while Russian Easter Festival Overture by Rimsky-Korsakov captures the holiday’s vibrant spirit and folk music traditions. Berlioz’s mesmerising work, Symphonie fantastique portrays the autobiographical story of a deeply infatuated artist. Each movement evokes dramatic scenes of yearning, obsession and wild hallucinations through the avant-garde use of large orchestration, recurring thematic material and intricate harmonies.
