presented in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv JENNY MELVILLE Oboe & Cor Anglais Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Oboe Quartet in F major, K. 370/368b The MPO returns to Spazju Kreattiv to present a live chamber concert. Mozart’s Oboe Quartet was written for virtuoso oboist Freidrich Ramm showcasing the marked improvement in the instrument’s dexterity and technical capabilities. Turina’s Piano Quartet features distinctly Andalusian yet mysterious melodic passages. The cante jondo, a song originating in Southern Spain establishes the motivic structure of the work, appearing in multiple movements and giving a cyclical form to the composition. Composed in 1971, the final work performed presents an unconventional combination of instruments in a number of game-like movements interluded by a more expressive and a reflective Paris-inspired second and fourth parts.
