Launching Harmonie, Songs for Voice & Harp

“The palette of colors offered by the human voice, combined with the crystalline and hypnotic charm of the harp, are the weapons of seduction of the work you are about to hear.”

This tantilising description introduces the latest collaboration between the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and Spanish Classical record label, ARIA Classics. The album featuring soprano Tatiana Lisnic and MPO Principal Harp Britt Arend, will be officially launched with a recital at Robert Samut Hall, where it was originally recorded earlier in 2021.

Reflecting the atmosphere recorded in the album, the concert features a number of spellbinding songs showcasing the variety and depth of human emotions. These include a six song cycle by prolific composer, singer, pianist and conductor Reynaldo Hahn.  The merging of masters of voice and harp will guide a delicate tour of Hahn’s tribute to the serene city of the canals, amongst other works by Fauré, Dvorak and Debussy.

High quality sound and a solid production concept is amongst the many parallel beliefs put into the budding collaborations between the MPO and ARIA Classics, including this album. The significant career of label founder and owner Fernando Arias, including sound engineering and music producing for other labels such as SONY Classical and WARNER Classics promises a high calibre listening experience.

Such is an experience which the MPO, as Malta’s leading musical ensemble strives for, as it continues to diversify in its music making. The alliance will bear more fruit in further albums to be released in the future, including a work for quartet ensemble and a full orchestral recording featuring works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.  HARMONIE songs for voice and harp has been released and may be bought online and enjoyed live during the recital on 8 December at 7.30PM. The recital is presented in collaboration with ARIA Classics and is in accordance with all current health protocols, with valid vaccination certificate required at entry. Entrance is free but pre-booking is required by emailing events@maltaorchestra.com.
