Peter Flanagan is Irish-born. His mother taught him to read music on her knee even before learning the alphabet. His formal music studies began with the violin and piano, before eventually settling on the cello; partaking in chamber music, festivals, and further studies in Manchester,
England, and Gstaad, Switzerland. Studies incorporated international touring and masterclasses with Yehudi Menuhin, Alberto Lysy and Radu Aldulescu, amongst others.
Out of respect for the environment, Peter performs exclusively on a Boston Luis & Clark carbon fibre cello and Minnesotan carbon fibre Codabows.
