Mario Micallef started playing the violin at the age of six, guided by his father who was a musician himself. In 1979, he became a part-timer with the Manoel Theatre Orchestra. In 1981 he studied at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Firenze, on scholarship, under the directorship of Prof. Mauro Ceccanti..
Upon his return to Malta, Mario joined the Orchestra, moving on to sub-leader of the second violins. He currently holds the post of violinist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, even taking part in concerts when the Orchestra toured abroad.
He has been a member of the Orchestra for 38 years … it is his life!
