Jean Pierre Vaillancourt Cassar was first introduced to percussion after starting lessons with the MPO Principal Percussion Daniel Cauchi. Eventually he enrolled at the University of Malta, while occasionally working as a part-time musician with the MPO..

In 2016, Jean Pierre won an audition for the post of Assistant Timpani and First Percussion at the Ruse State Opera in Bulgaria, where he worked until 2019. After joining the Malta Youth Orchestra, Jean Pierre was joined the MPO Internship Programme in January 2020.

In 2021, he graduated from the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma with a Masters in Orchestral Performance and is currently pursuing further studies with Nick Woud (Solo Timpani, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Gratiniano Murcia Verdu (Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana) as well as Ilya Melikhov (Russian National Orchestra).
