Jean Pierre Vaillancourt Cassar was first introduced to percussion after starting lessons with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal percussion, Daniel Cauchi. Eventually he enrolled at the University of Malta, while occasionally working as a part-time musician with the MPO.

In 2016, Jean Pierre won an audition for the post of Assistant Timpani and First Percussion at Ruse State Opera in Bulgaria, where he worked until 2019. After joining the Malta Youth Orchestra, Jean Pierre was introduced to the internship programme in January 2020.

He is also currently enrolled at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma, studying with Nick Woud (Solo Timpani, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam), as well as Ilya Melikhov (Russian National Orchestra).
