Taking musical education to the next level 

MPO Academy is an initiative launched by the MPO to provide educaiton for young musicians

The Academy

The MPO Academy will focus on specialised training, going beyond instrumental teaching, proving skills related to orchestral playing in a broad and holistic educational approach.

Based at the Catholic Institute building in Floriana, the newly-formed Academy boasts renowned British conductor Peter Stark as its Director of Music. Stark, who has had an extensive career conducting some of the world’s leading ensembles, adds this role to two other prominent positions he currently holds, that of Professor of Conducting at the Royal College of Music, and that of Rehearsal Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO).

The mission of the Academy is to cater for the provision of a quality pedagogical framework allowing young musicians to nurture their talents whilst bolstering Malta’s up-and-coming talents.

Additionally, it seeks to become a leading player attracting international students to come and study in Malta, allowing the islands to become a hub for culture and arts.

The MPO Academy is presented with the EUFSC as its main partner, supported by the Ministry for Education and the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government.
