Nurturing Malta`s Musical Identity

The Malta Youth Orchestra (MYO) is the protagonist in a new project that will take off with a launch concert, MYO Butterfly Project – The Beginnings, comprising a concoction of music genres, with one core element – Maltese Music

Kris and Daniel of Kafena, Nadine Axisa, Corazon, Kantilena and Joe Roscoe will be present their original songs, while Julie Zahra, Mike Portelli, Remy Azzopardi and Brooke will be interpreting Maltese classics, all arranged and performed by the MYO.

Local musicians will have the opportunity to display their talents by performing in a high-quality musical show. Two internationally acclaimed musicians, Luca Colombo (guitar) and Lorenzo Bassignani (bass), will join the MYO for this concert, and will also be giving free masterclasses at Robert Samut Hall, Floriana, on the 20th and 24th March, 10am till 1pm. Anyone interested in attending may book by emailing or calling 2124 4473 till 18th March.

The idea of the butterfly symbolise local artists who go to great lengths to achieve certain results, but are hindered due to certain limitations. Because just like most butterflies they are only able to migrate over short distances.

The concert will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on Saturday, 26th March at 20:00. Entrance is FREE, donations of €5 in aid of Puttinu Cares will be appreciated.
