Philip Walsh directs the MPO at the Valletta Baroque Festival, a concert featuring an eclectic selection of 20th century and contemporary music inspired by the Baroque era. The highlight of the programme is the orchestral dance suite for Klavier by Richard Strauss which is based on a selection of works for harpsichord by François Couperin’s – also known as the Couperin Suite.

Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, Arvo Pärt’s Fratres and La Sindone and Maltese composer Veronique Vella’s Verietta evoke elements of Baroque dances and madrigals.
